Acrylics were first introduced in the 1950s and are now considered one of the most important innovations for artists. The paints are amongst the most popular art materials available, due to their versatility. Acrylics are fast drying, can be used with water and produce brilliant colours. They produce good results, whether they are applied using oil or watercolour techniques.

Acrylics can be combined to produce different colours. However, artists should be aware that not all acrylics are compatible, so it is best to do a test mixing first. If there is a problem with the mix it will manifest itself in the form of a thickening on the palette. Artists need permanent colours, so when selecting an acrylic paint check the permanence rating on the product labels or colour chart. A good art supplier will be able to offer advice to anyone new to acrylic painting.

When starting out with acrylics you should choose a palette with a wide colour spectrum and include a number of transparent and opaque colours, as well as strong tinting and weak tinting colours. Most artists maintain a palette of around 12 colours. When choosing new colours, purchase a hand painted colour chart of your desired range, as this will help you make the right choice when buying new tubes. Acrylics can be used to produce a variety of effects, such as scumbling, glazing, staining and abstract painting, which requires flat, smooth finishes.

Paper is popular with acrylic artists as a surface, but other art supplies, such as canvas, can be used along with MDF and even brick, terracotta or leather.

Leonard Bocour and Sam Golden between 1946 and 1949 had invented a solution acrylic paint under the brand Magna paint.

A waterborne acrylic paint called “Aquatec” would soon follow. Otto Rohm invented acrylic resin, which quickly transformed into acrylic paint.

Acrylics were first made commercially available in the 1950s. These were mineral spirit-based paints called Magna. In 1953, the year that Rohm and Haas developed the first acrylic emulsions, Jose L. Gutierrez produced Politec Acrylic Artists Colors in Mexico and Permanent Pigments Co of Cincinnati Ohio produced Liquitex colors.

These two product lines were the very first acrylic emulsion artists paints. Water-based acrylic paints were subsequently sold as “latex” house paints, although acrylic dispersion uses no latex derived from a rubber tree. Interior “latex” house paints tend to be a combination of binder (sometimes acrylic, vinyl, pva, and others), filler, pigment, and water. Exterior “latex” house paints may

also be a “co-polymer” blend, but the very best exterior water-based paints are 100% acrylic. Soon after the water-based acrylic binders were introduced as house paints, artists and companies alike began to explore the potential of the new binders. Water-soluble artists’ acrylic paints

became commercially available in the 1950s, offered by Liquitex, with high-viscosity paints similar to those made today becoming available in the early 1960s.[4] In 1963, Rowney (now part of Daler-Rowney Ltd since 1983) was the first manufacturer to introduce an artist’s acrylic color in Europe, under the brand name Cryla

The World’s Best Art Consultancy
art-exchange.com unveils Release III of its art tool for designers

The Future Art Consultancy
Locating and placing artwork in a design project is arguably the most difficult part of the project. While some designers take on this task themselves, many enlist the assistance of an art consultant. One limitation of this approach is the consultant’s limited universe of artists. Most art consultants end up with a few “go-to” favorites.

Imagine an art consultancy able to directly access 10,000 artists, with technology capabilities aggregating art choices in a portfolio for emailing or high-resolution printing for presentations. Add the ability to correspond with clients via e-postcard including selected images. And finish with the ability to access framing options online thus enabling the designer to actually show the customer how the pieces will look framed.

Does It Work?
Can a website help you find art? Art-Exchange (www.art-exchange.com) is not a new website, not a new service, not a new company. It does, however, take a new approach to providing art to designers. And it has a new site design that Art-Exchange claims will make the service even more powerful and easier to use.
I spoke with Richard Gipe, President and CEO of Art-Exchange, to find out why he thinks his company’s service is so special. I asked him, “If you had to communicate Art-Exchange’s value to designers in a single sentence, what would you say?”
Here’s what he said: “If you want to access as much art as we have on Art-Exchange, you would have to go to 20,000 galleries, and you would have to deal with so many different sellers that the logistics would be overwhelming.” That sounds pretty good. But does the site work?

About Art-Exchange
Art-Exchange is a business service provider that specializes in solutions for the design trade. They can offer solutions to designers as an art consultancy, or they can provide solutions to art consultants to help them be more effective and efficient.
For the past five years Art-Exchange has been actively contacting artists to list their works on the exchange. Today there are approximately 100,000 different works of art created by over 10,000 different artists. Imagine searching 100,000 records to locate the perfect art solution. Nearly 60% of all the works are originals, and the remaining 40% is a variety of editions. All of these works are organized in a database, and a search engine locates works using any or all of the following criteria: • Artist’s name
• Title
• Subject matter
• Style
• Medium
• Size
• Colors
• Price
• Orientation

Suppose you need oversized original works and price is an issue. Maybe you want only works with lighthouses. Or perhaps you need large public works. That’s how specific the search engine can be. And with the new design, if you enter several criteria and the search engine can’t find a work that matches all your criteria exactly, it will refer you to the works that match your criteria most closely, so that you don’t have to start over. As one of the new site’s designers said, “We don’t ever want to show nobody anything.”
Normally, designers hire an art consultant or visit multiple galleries or view print books to find the perfect art solution. That’s the old way of finding art. Now designers can look in one place and view tens of thousands of originals alone. This is the new way of finding art. Art-Exchange let’s designers search for all the art they need in one place. That alone has the potential to save time, but the website has some other very powerful features that give designers even more flexibility and power.

Powerful Features
One very important new feature is the Designer Portal. Art-Exchange has four different portals that members can use to enter the site. There’s one for retail clients, one for community partners, and another for artists and other sellers. But the Designer Portal is available only to designers. Once you enter the portal, you can search for the art you want, view images of the art, and immediately see designers’ wholesale pricing.
Here’s another great new feature: Portfolios. How do you keep track of the works that fit your client’s needs? You keep a portfolio. Designers can set up portfolios for individual clients, different locations, or just for future reference. It’s easy to save works to custom-made portfolios. And it’s easy to show the portfolio to clients—from anywhere in the world.
Another terrific feature is the Exhibitions section. Exhibitions include the works of around 200 artists and are compiled topically. Prior exhibitions, which are still accessible, include Realism, Landscape, Watercolor, and Impressionism. In order to have fresh ideas readily available for clients, designers need to be reviewing art all the time, and these exhibitions can help. It takes only fifteen minutes to view an entire exhibition.
Another feature that can help designers and clients work together—especially when clients have trouble describing their interests—is the Postcard feature. Clients can go to the website to browse for themselves. They can view an exhibition, browse by artist, or do a search. When they find something they like, they can send images to their designer using electronic postcards.
Soon, Art-Exchange will even offer the ability to create Custom Frames online so that clients can view the artwork in different frames and choose the one they like best.

Full-Service Art Consultancy
Art-Exchange goes far beyond just the website, however. They also provide full-service art consultancy. They have a full staff of qualified art consultants who can do as much or as little as a designer wants them to. Anything a typical art consultancy does, Art-Exchange will do. If a designer works with an art consultant already and wants to maintain that relationship, Art-Exchange will even work with his or her current art consultant.

How to Access the Features and Benefits of Art-Exchange
Go to www.art-exchange.com and visit the Designer Portal. Log in as a designer and learn about how the service works. You can easily search for art, access their full-service art consultancy, or guide your favorite art consultant to Art-Exchange. A subscription is free. Art-Exchange is paid by the sellers on completed transactions; so they only get paid if they’re helping designers find the right art, for the right job, at the right price.
When asked what he would most want to communicate to designers about the company and the service it provides, Gipe said, “I want the members of ASID who place art to try the art consultancy service at Art-Exchange, and if they’ll give us 10% of their trust, we’ll earn the other 90%.” If you’re a designer or an art consultant, it’s worth trying. Does it work? Is it really whole new way of finding art? Yeah, that’s what it is. And for designers, the world of art will never be the same.

Australia’s fabric suppliers are presenting a wide variety of options for designers to create the newest looks for upcoming seasons. For fashion, prints are commanding attention in tribal and floral motifs while natural fibres remain strong , even as designers seek out alternatives to silk due to its rising price. Leather adds interest for winter as digital printing continues its ascendancy, due to its ability to add exclusivity to ranges.

Suppliers for the sportswear category are currently growing their offerings to include more colours while developing new technologies as consumers demand a stronger performance factor from fabrics. SC8 Fabrics managing director Steven Chichester says finishes are taking on a reptilian edge “We will be pushing snakeskins in PU coating and leather for winter 2012 as well as leather look fabrics and shiny black options suitable for tights and dresses. A strong print theme will be Oriental flowers on a black background and geometrics. For winter, coating will be wool and fur. And lace will be strong. One of our strongest fabrics will be Ponte. Colour themes for the season include several versions of red, a true winter burgundy and teale, mustard and orange and we are starting to see chocolates and nougats and coffee liqueur. Stretchtex national sales manager Raymond Fuchs confirms the company is developing a new fabric for the cycling sector for next winter. “We are laminating polyester with a waterproof and windproof membrane and have a fleecy layer inside designed to keep the wearer warm.”

“Stretchtex developed the original compression fabric around 10 years ago. Every sports person today, man, woman and child, will wear a compression garment at some point. We are supplying a large number of companies with these fabrics with lots of smaller private businesses getting involved in this area. When we started, we were only making the fabric in black. Now, we do at least 12 or 13 colours.

Similarly, our chlorine-resistant fabrics are available in at least 30 colours as a stock service as well as customised colours for customers with a minimum dye batch required. You can do sublimation printing on both the Chloroban and Aquamax. For fashion, a lot of businesses are doing sublimation printing on our polyester fabric containing Lycra®.” Charles Parsons design manager Meg Taylor sums up the outlook for prints: “For our spring/summer ‘12 collection, there will be a continuation of print and pattern which we have seen performing strongly over the past three or four seasons. There are quite a few geometric patterns and floral motifs are still popular, while there is always an element of tribal.”

“Rather than standard repeats, we are moving towards the more abstract. Our customers are happy with this step. They can become clever about the way they lay pattern pieces and add more value to a garment rather than the garment being just about shape. They can work on construction to make each piece look different and stand out against their competition.”

“Digital printing is a growth area due to the infinite colours that can be used. Digital print development, for us, has grown 30 per cent in the past year as designers look for a point of difference. They don’t want to share a print; they want exclusivity.”
“For fabrications, natural fibres are still very strong with developments in viscose or rayon. Linen in a Tencel blend is making a comeback while also popular are Cupro and Bemberg, viscose fibres with a silk-like quality. As silk prices have gone up a lot over the last 12 months making them less affordable, people are looking towards fibres like polyester and we offer a range of product such as voiles, satins ands silks.” According to Eclipse Textiles marketing and product development designer Vanessa Kirk: “There is a trend for fine gauge or lightweight fabrics for swimwear. We’re the Australasian supplier of a circular knit with a fine gauge and a lovely drape, Jersey Lomellina. Also from an Italian fabric manufacturer is Eurojersey, a warp knit with a fine gauge. This fabric has the robust quality of warp knit and the lightweight features of a circular knit. Digital printing is starting to dominate the swimwear area as the detail in the prints can be amazing.

“In activewear, there is a trend towards sublimation bases and a move to compression fabrics. Our fabrics for clothing manufacturers include compression fabrics in heavy weight or fine gauge. Our Italian supplier Carvico specialises in warp knit in a compression range. There are quite a few impressive fabrics in the Revolutional range. This lightweight compression fabric is a new technology they brought out a couple years ago; it feels better on the skin and has performance fabrics that relate to the yarn. A finer gauge in the range is sand resistant which is great for triathlons.

“Dominating the textile innovation area at sourcing fairs are ecofriendly fabrics and we do get enquiries but we’re not sure yet how commercial this area has become. Carvico and Jersey Lomellina have a green approach, they have regulations for the prevention and reduction of pollution, the protection and preservation of green spaces, treatment of water and they monitor the release of gas emissions and employ clean and renewable energy sources to replace traditional sources that rely on fuel. Eurojersey has ecofriendly prints due to the dyestuffs used.

“We have also launched a social media platform. We have a blog, Twitter, LinkedIn group and three Facebook pages; a business-to-business page, another aimed at students to foster up-and-coming designers and another for dance schools and dancers. For the dance market, we sell bright nylon fabrics containing Lycra® with a bit of shine and our premium combed cotton.” http://www.fashionsource.com.au

A Wedding Day has the potential to be a highly stressful day – so you need people around you that you can trust to keep their cool and maintain a professional attitude throughout the day. It arguably the most memorable day of anyone’s life and one that requires a lot of time and effort to guarantee it runs smoothly. It A little known fact is that a Photographer is the one hired professional who will stay with the bride and groom throughout their day from beginning to the end. No other wedding professional stays with the couple as long as a photographer! But, not all the action is with the bride and groom. A Wedding is a huge event with sometimes hundreds of people so there are quite often moments worth capturing that aren’t in the spotlight. This is where a second photographer comes into play and can really make all the difference in wedding photography.

During a Wedding ceremony a second photographer can focus their photography on the groom to capture that first glance at their bride, whilst the main photographer can follow the bride and father as they make their way down the aisle. This almost guarantees a full range of coverage that any one single photographer cannot capture. A 2nd photographer does not just mean more photos throughout the Wedding Day. A second shooter captures all the candid moments that a primary photographer perhaps cannot see due to being occupied with the Bride & Groom.

When only one photographer is needed a second photographer also acts as an assistant to help with the creative process and speed up the posed traditional style that weddings photography is renowned for. An assistant can help with holding lights, scrims and reflector boards which can otherwise constrain a photographers creative potential. A photographer doesn’t want to ask one of the bridal party to hold a light above their head in order to get ‘that shot’, so instead that will probably choose not to take it, limiting themselves to the shots they can take with no added help. Having an assistant who is another professional on board also means added creative input and more ideas. Their trained eye can also spot stray hairs and interference that a primary photographer focusing on light and composition might miss.

There is a trend nowadays which is swinging toward a candid photojournalistic style which has a Photographer out of sight. Everyone knows the traditional Wedding photos of having family and friends posed together with the newly married couple which is still widely used. The photojournalistic style can really only be executed by using a second photographer. While the main photographer is focusing on gathering people for setups, the second shooter (with a telephoto lens) can capture people when they have their guard down and get those in between shots.

It is hard to understand why new Photography technologies are considered “technology for ‘assholes’” by professional photographers such as photojournalists. It is just a wonder how they do not learn to appreciate the amount of time and money spent on these new innovations, not to mention the brilliant minds that whirred day and night just to be able to offer these magnificent inventions of convenience and ease to the ordinary photography enthusiast.

The average modern photographer will be justified to advance the argument that even if photographers of the old school assert that the old way of doing it is more artistic and produce more breath-taking pieces of photographs, modern-technology photography can equal if not outdo what the old school photographer is able to do with the use of graphics software such as Photoshop. Anything and everything is now possible with digital photography and processing. The old school photographer even uses some of the modern technology processes to come up with better results. So what’s the point in maintaining a “false” status quo in old school photography?

The artistic photography enthusiast sometimes do not even warm to being “labelled” photographer. They feel and insist they are not just photographers. They consider themselves above the lowly title but are artists in their own right using photography as an artistic medium. So what does the modern photographer have to say about that? He is noncommittal and just shrugs his shoulders. He could not even understand what most of the things the artistic photography enthusiast is saying.

There is no actual war between the two camps nor is there even just a hint of a cold war. But the differences in opinion are there that usually baffle the serious newbie who, to his belief, still has to choose between the two differing cliques. It is much later that the newbie discovers he does not even need to choose between the two. He can even start a third school that is a cross between the two schools. It may even be instrumental in pacifying the “war” as “members” of both can join as “come-and-go members” of his safe middle-ground “school” of photography.

The “war” between the new and old Photography technologies is a clear indicator that man has a very fertile imagination. He creates wars where there should not be in the same manner that he wants peace where there is no war. Fickle-minded, won’t you say?

Pencils. One of the crudest forms of writing yet it has endured up to this time. Technically speaking, a pencil is a writing tool which is made of a pigment core which is enclosed in a protective casing. This can describe almost all writing implements, but as a consensus, people usually use the term pencil to describe any writing implement which has a core made out of compressed carbon, graphite or clay which is enclosed in a protective outer layer, typically made out of wood. Nowadays however, you’ll see pencils in all sorts of shapes and sizes, the type of pencil that you buy will depend on what you will be using it for.

You can use any pencil to draw; you can use it as long as you can write properly with it. However, if you want to really wish to produce high quality artworks, you will have to get pencils which are specifically made for drawing. Again, there are all sorts of brands and types that are currently offered in the marked, but most will have a designation number of some sort to indicate the level of darkness the pencil had. On most brands the letter F will indicate the hardness of the pencil lead while B will indicate the softness. The softer the pencil lead is, the easier it will smudge. The number beside it indicates the level of hardness or softness of the lead. So for example, a 2F pencil will be softer than a 3F pencil while a 3B will be softer than a 2B. If you want to draw sketch lines which can be erased easily, use an F pencil. If you want darker and heavier lines which are almost charcoal-like in consistency, use a B pencil with a higher number. You can even smudge lines drawn with a B pencil with your finger!

Just like pencils, you can draw on almost any kind of paper, but if you really want to get the results that you envision, you have to choose the right kind of paper. High quality drawing paper is tough and should not tear after a couple of erasures. Drawing paper also comes in various textures. Paper with a lot of “tooth” will abrade the pencil more easily, which is also why you need to know which kind of pencil will work best on what kind of paper. Of course, this will depend on what kind of drawing you are planning to make.

Erasers. You should have a good eraser when doing pencil art. Erasers aren’t just used to erase mistakes, these are also used to “mop up” dark spots in order to create a good definition between light and shade. Don’t use just any eraser, especially those which are found on the ends of regular pencils because those are quite hard and will scratch the paper heavily. You should always have a kneadable eraser at hand, these are not for heavy erasing but rather for mopping up smudges and dirt. This won’t tear the paper at al.

Henna tattoos are exciting to have. They are only temporary; you may remove them if the charm have died down. You can also play around with many henna tattoo designs. Acquiring henna designs are affordable too compared to real tattoo designs and the best partis: there has no pain involved when you get them on your skin.

Henna tattoo designs derived from South Asia particularly in India. They are also recognized as Mehndi. The pigment is taken from the henna plant Lawsonia enermis which is an active dye that sticks to the skin, nails and hair. Henna tattoo designs are often connected with religion, spirituality and are done during specific occasions such as a wedding or festivities prior to the battle to ask for divine protection.

You could obviously experiment with your chosen tattoo designs. You can go with simple or complex designs depending on your choices. And because they are just non permanent, you could possibly form many designs from time to time if you would like to. These tattoos became voguish over the years, thanks to Madonna who had worn Indian henna tattoo designs as a back drop on one of her albums highlighting the Indian tradition and spirituality. Although she has been titled blasphemous and she has desecrated the cultural aspect and spirituality of the symbols or designs she practiced, it did not stop people from buying her albums and copying her.

The most common tattoo designs consist of Arabic and Indian patterns normally inked on the back of the hand or feet. Indian tattoo designs often involve detailed patterns of lotuses, teardrops, flowers, webs and other paisley patterns. Indian patterns commonlyinvolve fine, well drawn lines and often convey religious and spiritual messages.

Arabic tattoo designs conversely are generally inspired by the passages of the Koran, patterns on Arabic textile and carvings and flowers. They come in varying sizes as well depending on the location of the tattoo designs for them to stand out and emphasize its characteristics and details.

Aside from these, you can use this tattoo just for the fun of it. You could possibly own whatever tattoo designs you wish. You can also acquire henna tattoo designs on your body, your back or in your arms to stress your outfit or to make a statement. Tattoo designs also bring artistic expressions of people who get them and tattoo artists as well.

The only demerit in owning this tattoo designs is that the pigments are just restricted to black, brown and shades of red. Sometimesthe henna solution are addedenable the pigments remain longer and to make the colors darker. Spices and aromatics may also be incorporated to kake the whole experience to the next level.

You might also wish to first check allergic effects to the pigment before you ink them. Some people react to the components of henna and develop rashes and other allergic reactions like swelling and itchiness. You may want to execute a simple skin test first prior to applying them otherwise, you are happy to go and enjoy.

Doesn’t it just bother you when you try to draw and it doesn’t quite turn out the way you wanted it to?

Well first off let me start with ANYONE CAN LEARN TO DRAW. ANYONE!!!!! You have to understand its all in your head. Drawing is a skill. Anyone can acquire it. But how?

One word: BELIEVE

Be inspired to draw. If you don’t believe you can acquire anything

Start off by sketching, it might not be beautiful but what your really doing is improving your skills. Slowly but surely you will get there.

When sketching, make sure you start out with shapes. An easy way to sketch is to think of it as layers.
Start off with a circle lightly and then draw on that circle a face. A little more harder than you did with the circle. This way you can get your proportions down, rather than just winging it.

I like to get prepared when i draw. i suggest to use these tools.

Pencil: Well duh but find a special one and always use it when your drawing.
Pencil set: You don’t need this but if you want a lot of different shades of a pencil and like shading I highly recommend this
Kneaded Eraser: Most amazing thing ever, its like the dodge tool on Photoshop. Also its an endless eraser that never gets too dirty. Look it up.
Cue tip or Blender: I bought a blender for like 2 dollars and its worth it, it will smudge the pencil together for an amazing realistic effect. But a cue tip works just fine.

Make a goal to try to make a portrait by looking at a photo and drawing it on to paper.
Remember! They don’t have to look perfect. You need to make sure you have pencil skills.
Practice makes perfect!

When your choosing a photo reference, try not to draw depth or shade in. You want to make sure
that your ability to draw proportions is improving.

Maybe online tutorials will help you out. I’ve been drawing for 3 years now and i now too, can draw photos realistic
